When a standard motor configuration doesn't meet the requirements of a machine application, a motor can sometimes be modified to incorporate the required braking system.
Modern Drives & Controls recently completed a motor modification project for Urschel, a manufacturer of food-processing machinery, for use on a slicing machine.
The Project
The application required a 7.5 kW IE3 motor with an integrated braking solution, but a standard off-the-shelf brake motor wasn't the required configuration.
Modern Drives & Controls supplied a Brook Crompton WP-DF1325MX IE3 motor and modified it to incorporate a Lenze INTORQ BFK458.14E spring-applied brake.
As the motor was being used on food-processing machinery, the mechanical configuration was also modified to suit the application, including the addition of a stainless-steel shaft and modified end shield.

A Bespoke Motor Solution
This project demonstrates that a braking requirement does not always mean selecting a standard brake motor from a catalogue.
Where a particular motor is required for an application, it may be possible to modify the motor and integrate a suitable braking system to produce a solution tailored to the machine.
Modern Drives & Controls can supply Brook Crompton motors and Lenze INTORQ brakes, as well as providing the mechanical modification and assembly work required for specialist applications.
